The sea cart 30 is the brainchild of the Swedish sailor Calle Hennix. As many of the Nokia Oops Cup sailors, Hennix has a background of offshore monohull sailing and took part in the Whitbread round the world race onboard the Maxi ketch, The Card.

It was after the Nokia Oops Cup 2001, where Hennix had been competing onboard the Sony Trimaran, that the idea of the SeaCart 30 started to grow.

- I thought that the formula 60 racing was amazing fun, but it should be a little bit smaller. A smaller and trailerable boat can open up a completely new arena for sailing. It should be very easy to handle and also able to do serious grand prix and offshore racing.

The outcome of his idea is the Mark Lombard Designed SeaCart 30 that was launched in April 2005. The boat is built in all-carbon fibre by the Swedish boat builder Marström Composite, located in Västervik.
