HISTORY

Although sailing as a means of transportation predates history, sport sailing, or yachting, seems to have originated in the 17th century in Holland . From there it was introduced into England (c.1660) by Charles II, and eventually spread to the American colonies. Then, as now, it was common for sport sailors to join together for social and recreational purposes in groups known as yacht clubs. The world's first such club was founded (1720) at Cork , Ireland .

The design, construction and materials of masts, rigging and sails have changed greatly over the course of the 20th century. From solid wooden masts built from a single tree to carbon fibre sections aerodynamically tested, super light and super strong. For sails there have been developments from natural materials such as cotton, which had a tendency to rot and stretch when wet, to new materials such as carbon fibre, Kevlar and exotic films and glues.

As materials and yacht designs are becoming more and more extreme the costs of sail racing is constantly rising.

With the media exposure and the B2B opportunities that a modern ocean racer can bring, the window of making a business around commercial sailing projects has opened. The business is build upon good sports result in combination with a solid media return on investment for the partners within the specific project. Whyshore AB was founded to meet the demand for this type of business.

Chairman of Whyshore AB is the Swedish businessman and yachtsman, Pelle Norberg. He is a management and sports promotion consultant with many years of international business experience. He made a name for himself in the sailing community when he became the Managing director of Team SEB in the Volvo Ocean Race 2001-2002.

After Volvo Ocean Race, Norbergs ambition was to continue in the yachting/sports promotion business and did so together with famous Swedish sailor Roger Nilsson who was the navigator on Amer Sports One in the same Volvo Ocean Race.

Due to various reasons, Pelle Norberg and Roger Nilsson went together with two other top sailors in Sweden , Klabbe Nylöf and Andreas Anderssen. Together they formed the base of what was to become Whyshore.

Klas “Klabbe” Nylöf has been sailing on a professional level for 20 years and created a name for him self when he as a crew member won the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1997-98 with EF Language and the same year became ocean racer of the year in Sweden.

Four years later he joined Assa Abloy racing team for another trip around the world. The team managed to push themselves to an honourable second place. In between these trips Klabbe has taken part in almost every big sailing competition around the globe.

During the last years he has taken the leap from monohull racing to multihull racing and has been the skipper on different formula 60 multihulls for four years, first on Nicator in the Cape to Rio race and currently on the HiQ Trimaran for the fourth year.

The Cape to Rio race was the first project that Klabbe Nylöf did with Andreas Anderssen. Together they managed to win and beat the record to Rio with the Nicator trimaran.

Andreas Anderssen has a background of being a sail maker at Doyle and this led him to become head of sails for the Swedish monohull project Nicorette. Nicorette was the first non American boat to win the Chicago to Mackinac Race and this was the first race Andreas and Klabbe made on the same boat.

Andreas is one of Swedens most experienced multihull sailors and has been skipper and boat captain on no less than seven formula 60 trimarans. As Klabbe Nylöf, Anderssen has taken part in almost every big yachting race around the globe. His current position, for the fourth year, is boat captain in HiQ Sailing Team.

Whyshore was established in early 2005 and is owned by Pelle Norberg, Klabbe Nylöf and Andreas Anderssen. Together they constitute for the perfect mix for running such a Yachting/sports promotion company. With the mixture of sailing experience and entrepreneurship, they compliment each other in a perfect way.
